BarZ Adventures is proud to offer ADA compatable multimedia GPS Ranger® and Zoo Ranger® tours. BarZ can assist parks, zoos and other outdoor venues in meeting ADA guidelines by offering tours that are accessible to all visitors. The Ranger series is a perfect way for your venue to adapt tours and interpretive content to be accessible to visitors that are deaf or hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired, or physically disabled, enabling your venue to become compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. ADA and your Venue In 1990, the U.S. Congress passed into law the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which effectively “prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, programs and services provided by state and local governments, goods and services provided by private companies, and in commercial facilities.” (See the U.S. Department of Justice “ADA Homepage” at http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/ada/adahom1.htm.) What this may mean for your venue is that services and products offered should be adapted, through reasonable accommodation, to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. BarZ Adventures can help your venue prepare accessible, interpretive content for all visitors that is ready on-demand! BarZ at Congress The BarZ Adventures founder, Wm. Lee Little had the opportunity to testify before congress about the power of the GPS Ranger and Zoo Ranger multimedia tour guide systems in expanding access to public lands for people with disabilities. Click here to view the video clip of this testimony. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Friendly Tours Tours and interpretive services can be made accessible to those who are deaf or hard of hearing through the ad-hoc hiring of live sign interpreters at a substantial expense to the venue. Long lead pre-planning by visitors with these types of needs, last-minute scrambling by venues and the occasional inability to fulfill such requests are all challenges to meeting this type of accommodation, but now, the GPS Ranger enables tour content to be adapted and ready on demand for meeting the needs of these visitors! BarZ Adventures and CSD Partner to Bring Tours in American Sign Language and Captioning BarZ Adventures and Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) have partnered to bring inclusionary ASL tours to a growing number of venues across the nation. Both organizations are committed to helping venues increase their ADA compliance by offering equal access to interpretive content.

The GPS Ranger and Zoo Ranger multimedia tour guide devices can be used to communicate availability and locations of accessible venue amenities for slow walkers and wheel chair users. Things such as ramps, accessible parking and restrooms, and accessible features such as picnic tables, fire rings, scenic overlooks or accessible trails can all be marked and communicated through th systems' interactive GPS maps. Pop-up details can deliver additional insights such as the number of each amenity available at each location. Audio Description Tours for the Blind or Visually Impaired The visually impaired can now utilize Ranger Series tours delivered with Audio Description to get a fuller and richer experience. Video, photography, images and tour stops are all described graphically to create a comprehensive tour. Automatic triggering of information using the Ranger Series' GPS technology and headphone adaptors ensure that nothing is missed. The Next Step BarZ Adventures has formed an Advisory Board to further adapt the GPS Ranger and Zoo Ranger multimedia tour guide systems to be ADA compatible for all markets. The company is committed to further improving its systems to open up accessibility to all visitors! If you have a favorite venue that you would like to see add an accessible GPS Ranger or Zoo Ranger tour, let the venue know about this new technology that is now available to meet the needs of all tourists! Request that a Ranger Series tour be developed to meet your needs and to help them meet ADA guidelines.
