Deaf and Hard of Hearing Friendly Tours

Tours and interpretive services can be made accessible to those who are deaf or hard of hearing through the ad-hoc hiring of live sign interpreters at a substantial expense to the venue. Long lead pre-planning by visitors with these types of needs, last-minute scrambling by venues and the occasional inability to fulfill such requests are all challenges to meeting this type of accommodation, but now, the GPS Ranger enables tour content to be adapted and ready on demand for meeting the needs of these visitors!

BarZ Adventures and CSD Partner to Bring Tours in American Sign Language and Captioning

Image  BarZ Adventures and Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) have partnered to bring inclusionary ASL tours to a growing number of venues across the nation. Both organizations are committed to helping venues increase their ADA compliance by offering equal access to interpretive content.

Reactions to Deaf Friendly Tours delivered through the GPS Ranger

"This reminds me of my experience at the 1968 Hemisphere Fair in San Antonio, where such a device was showcased as a ’future toy,’. We are one step closer to an even playing field where communications access is concerned." - Bobbie Beth Scoggins, Chief Operating Officer, Communication Service for the Deaf

“With Austin’s reputation as a hub for innovation and technology, we’re proud to offer the cutting-edge GPS Ranger tour. The tour lends itself nicely to both leisure and business travelers, as visitors can explore the city at their own pace, on their own or with a group, stopping to learn more about the sites that pique their specific interests. As part of our commitment to providing the best services and amenities possible for all visitors, we are especially excited to offer the American Sign Language tour.  The GPS Ranger allows deaf and hard of hearing visitors to experience Austin with the assistance of a personal guide who details the city’s rich history and signature attractions in American Sign Language.” -  Bob Lander, President and Chief Executive Officer,  Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, in reference to the new GPS Ranger Austin Walking Tour in Captioning and ASL.

“When we were first approached by BarZ Adventures to supply sign language content for the Austin walking tour, we immediately understood the implications and opportunities this cutting-edge device could offer our deaf and hard of hearing consumers.  We are excited to partner with such an innovative organization that clearly understands the need to provide equal access for all people — regardless of their ability to hear — and look forward to developing future sign language tours for venues across America.”  - Ben Soukup, Chief Executive Officer, Communication Service for the Deaf

"I strongly feel that everyone in the world should have equal access to our national treasures. We realized that the Ranger was perfectly suited for the hearing loss community, and with the support of CSD, we were able to offer the first sign language tour in America for any major city. Speaking on behalf of the BarZ development team, we are all proud to help those with a hearing loss have a more enriched and enhanced visit to venues all Americans hold dear." - Lee Little, BarZ Adventures founder and inventor of the GPS Ranger.
